Below is a short link emphasizing how media effects
a wide range of young adults and why. It also shows what empowering celebrities
are trying to do to help fix what magazines are creating.

The majority of the research that we concludedconsists of studies examining how subjects ( young
men and woman) viewed themselves after they were exposed to certain magazine
photos. In three separate analyses from Cusumano and Thompson
(1997), Hayes (2008), and Turner et. al (1997), all examined the effects of
magazine exposure on awareness and internalization of societal ideals regarding
body image. All three studies yielded very similar findings, from
increased negative self image, eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia
and in mens cases the abuse of drugs such as steroids. Although no causality
can be determined; there is sufficient evidence that magazine exposure is
correlated to young women’s negative perceptions about their bodies and mens
increased obsession with physical finiteness.
